On the 24th of September 2021, 21 students graduated from Kao at Ntlafatso Skills Training Centre in Mohale’s Hoek.
Ntlafatso Skills Training Centre is sponsored by Storm Mountain Diamonds (SMD) Kao Mine with the renovation and maintenance of the school, procurement of meals and teaching materials and equipment amongst others. The students are youth from the Kao villages surrounding the operations of the mine. They are fully sponsored by the mine from tuition, stipend, transport, medical needs etc.
Nine students graduated in Cooking and Catering and twelve students graduated in Plumbing. There was also a mandatory course of Business Skills and Computer Literacy which was studied by all students and they were awarded certificates for this.
SMD's goal is to secure the future of the youth surrounding our operations. To leave a legacy of empowered and equipped people with skills to either improve their employability in more productive and decent work, or to create their own employment through entrepreneurship. SMD will continue with this initiative until all the youth from Kao have been upskilled.
The event was graced by the Hon Minister of Labour and Employment Mr. Moshe Leoma, PS Mr. Matela Thabane and other dignitaries.”
