Our Approach

• Our approach to mine Health & Safety is to anticipate, recognize, evaluate and control hazards arising in or from the workplace that could impair the health and wellbeing of workers; taking into consideration the possible impact on the surrounding communities and the general environment.
• Our main goal is to ensure zero harm to employees, the environment and local communities as a result of mining activities.
• We are committed to maintaining professionalism in all business dealings and interpersonal relationships. Having mutual respect among workers is as important as carrying out work with integrity and honesty.
• We strive to deliver results with excellence while maintaining the maximum safety for all.

Health & Safety Strategies

• To achieve this, we continually monitor and ensure compliance with relevant health and safety laws and standards.
• We engage our employees in Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment programs to ensure robust and comprehensive risk management processes.
• The company controls risks in line with hierarchy of controls to promote effective risk mitigation strategies.

Occupational Health

Occupational health surveillance is carried out to identify:-

• whether employees are exposed to existing workplace hazards;
• whether the control measures are effective;
• if the worker is showing any biological or clinical changes that could indicate damaging exposure.

Our safety performance is regularly monitored for continuous improvement.

At SMD Kao mine we believe that all occupational injuries are preventable. Zero harm can be achieved in our operations through reduction of exposure to health hazards.
