Storm Mountain Diamonds (SMD) earlier this month held its final stakeholder workshop on its five-year Community Investment Strategy (CIS).
This is where all stakeholders were invited to the culmination of the strategy which began in 2020 with consultations with the community through community profiling and needs analysis to determine their needs and how the mine can help meet such needs in an effort to improve their livelihoods. Multiple stakeholders spanning from GOL officials, Community Leadership, Non-Governmental Organizations and Civil Society were in attendance.
The strategy is aimed at improving the livelihoods of the communities surrounding the operations of the mine through delivery of sustainable income generating projects, skills development, improved infrastructure, access to services and capacity building by forming multi stakeholder partnerships.
SMD’s Community Investment Strategy is an integral part of the overall business strategy and a framework for engaging with local communities and other stakeholders to support sustainable development initiatives, national priorities and international conventions.
